There’s always a picture to be found

Published on September 20, 2025

I spent around an hour with my camera in the city center of Munich today. After being not entirely happy with the quality of my daily photos recently, I wanted to spend some dedicated time on photography – without having to be anywhere else or a dog pulling on the leash.

The original plan was to find some pockets of light and dramatic shadows in the area near the Jewish museum. The only problem: I was about an hour too late and by the time I got there, the light was mostly gone. I tried to work the area for a few minutes, but didn’t find an approach that worked for me.

So it was time for a change of plans. Once I let go of the idea that I wanted to have long, dramatic shadows in my photos, it turned out to be quite pleasant.

There were some other issues – like knocking my camera into ISO 51200 accidentally and only noticing after a few great moments had passed – but all in all this was a decent session.

I guess the moral of this story is that it’s nice to have a plan, but you have to know when to abandon it and do something else entirely.
